Familiar faces dominate Kenya Hockey Union polls line-up

This will be the first election since 2018, with long-serving president Nashon Randiek seeking re-election for a third term, having first assumed office in 2013 following the retirement of Resham Bains.
With the nomination deadline now closed, the focus turns to ten elective positions, many of which feature familiar names, several of them incumbents are poised to retain their seats unopposed.
In an official notice signed by Secretary General Wycliffe Ongori, the union outlined strict nomination rules, stating that only members registered with the Registrar of Sports and affiliated to the union were eligible to contest.
Each nomination required a proposer, at least two seconders, and the candidate’s written consent submitted to the Secretary General two weeks before the AGM.
Among the confirmed candidates is Nashon Randiek, who seeks to extend his 12-year reign as KHU president.
He is proposed by Kelvin Michael Mwangi and seconded by Joseph Ochieng Osino and Godfrey Odongo Bila.
Elynah Shiveka who is the incumbent female deputy president will also retain her position unopposed.
Michael Malungu vacates his position as the male deputy president with a trio of Dr. Franklin Odayo, Michael Graham Katana and Manjit Singh Jhite to battle out to succeed him.
Wycliffe Ongori, the current Secretary General, is among three candidates vying for the General Secretary role, alongside Tom Onyango Olal and Gilbert Ouko Oyoo. The Deputy Secretary General post has attracted Catherine Nduku Mulwa and Erick Tracey Kerubo.
In the race for Treasurer, incumbent Godfrey Odongo will have it easy as he is the only candidate who declared interest in the seat. It’s a two horse race for the deputy treasurer position between Francis Munyao Kisaingu and James Juma.
Moses Majiwa who serves as the assistant match and fixture secretary will be the only candidate for the Match and Fixture secretary is the sole nominee for Match and Fixtures Secretary, while Jane Nyamogo and Esther Ayiecha Adolwa will battle it out for Deputy Match and Fixtures Secretary.
The Public Relations Officer role has three contenders: Leonard Mutuku, Joel Mburu Kamau, and Kelvin Michael Mwangi. Leonard Mutuku is the incumbent.
According to the KHU constitution, the electorate will include two representatives from each registered County Hockey Association (CHA), two from the Kenya Hockey Umpires Association (KHUA), committee members of the Africa Hockey Federation (AFHF) and International Hockey Federation (FIH), one representative from the Kenya University Sports Association (KUSA), and one from the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA).
