Gaulitanus Choir participates in La Boheme at Taormina FestivalThe Gaulitanus Choir of Gozo is currently in Sicily participating in two productions of Puccini’s opera La Boheme.

Both performances are in the current edition of the Festival Belliniano, being held this week at the splendid Teatro Antico of Taormina.

This is a Italo-Maltese-Chinese production of La Boheme. The 48-strong adult chorus led by Gaulitanus founder-director Colin Attard will feature along with the Biancosuono children’s choir from Messina led by Agnese Carrubba. An international cast will be accompanied by a Chinese orchestra conducted by Li Xincao.

The opera, directed by Enrico Castiglione, is being televised in several countries and screened in cinemas worldwide.

The Gaulitanus Choir said that “this is the first time that a Maltese choir has participated in an operatic production abroad.”

The venture, it said, is an offshoot of the ongoing collaboration between Gaulitana: A Festival of Music and the Assocazione Festival Euro Mediterraneo.
