Violin phenom to perform with HBSO

Vietnamese-French violinist Stéphane Trần Ngọc will perform with the HCM City Ballet, Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) at the Opera House tonight.

HCM CITY — Vietnamese-French violinist Stéphane Trần Ngọc will perform with the HCM City Ballet, Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) at the Opera House tonight.

Ngọc will play The Four Seasons by Vivaldi, a group of four violin concerti, each of which features a season of the year. It was written in 1721 and first performed in 1725 in Amsterdam. 

The musician will also perform Distant Light, a concerto for violin and wind orchestra written by Latvian composer Peteris Vasks in 1996.  

The concert’s conductor is Meritorious Artist Trần Vương Thạch.

Ngọc completed his training in violin and chamber music at the Paris National Superior Conservatory of Music when he was 15. He received a master’s degree at the Brooklyn College’s Conservatory of Music before pursuing a doctorate at Juilliard School.

He has performed with leading orchestras, such as the Radio-France Philharmonic,  Monte Carlo Philharmonic, National Orchestra of Ile-de-France, Paris Ensemble Orchestra, and the Shinsei Symphony Orchestra

Ngọc was one of the youngest violin lecturers for the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon. He has worked for the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music and is now head of strings at the London College of Music.

He has participated in many music festivals and masterclass courses, and has been a jury member in major international competitions.

In addition to his solo playing, Ngọc plays with the DaPonte String Quartet and is a member of the Lawrence Chamber Players.

The concert will begin at 8pm tonight at the Opera House at 7 Lam Sơn Square in District 1.
