Local named exchange student coordinator
BENZONIA — Carla Gipson, of Beulah, was recently named a local coordinator for International Cultural Exchange Services (ICES). Gipson taught middle and high school for 27 years, served as curriculum specialist and teacher coach in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. She also started an exchange program in Havixbeck, Germany.

Trio performance

Kids’ art program
GLEN ARBOR —The “Little Artists” series begins at 9:30 a.m. April 13 at Glen Arbor Arts Center. This three-class series is for preschool children and an adult. Each class begins with a theme-setting story and includes hands-on activities. Cost is $40 for GAAC members and $45 for non-members. Price is $20 for each additional child. FRANKFORT — Elizabeth Lane Oliver Center for the Arts is calling for artists for its second Summer Members Exhibit, which is April 20 through June 1. EMPIRE — Glen Lake Library hosts local author Mardi Link at 7 p.m. April 13 at Empire Township Hall. Link will present “Not All Sugar & Spice: Bad Women of the Mitten,” an exploration of some infamous female criminals from Michigan’s past.
Spelling contest, fundraiser
FRANKFORT — Stormcloud Brewing Company hosts its fifth annual Adult Spelling Bee and Fundraiser at 7:30 p.m. April 13. The $25 entry fee and 20 percent of sales from 7-11 p.m. will benefit local nonprofit Joy 2 Ride Benzie. Registration is open at the brewery’s website.
‘The Father’ tickets available

Author launches book
TRAVERSE CITY — Keith Gave is launching his nonfiction book “The Russian Five: A Story of Espionage, Defection, Bribery and Courage” from 2-4 p.m. April 14 at Horizon Books. Gave, a Michigan resident, writes about five hockey players from the Soviet Union and the Detroit Red Wings’ Stanley Cup win in the 1990s.
