‘Downton Abbey’ next in Opera House Cinema Series

Submitted Photo The Fredonia Opera House is screening “Downton Abbey” Saturday and Tuesday.

The next feature film in the Opera House Cinema Series is “Downton Abbey,” the long-awaited feature film sequel to the acclaimed PBS series. It will be screened on Saturday, Nov. 2, and Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m.

The worldwide television phenomenon “Downton Abbey” becomes a grand motion picture event, as the beloved Crawleys and their intrepid staff prepare for the most important moment of their lives — a royal visit from the King and Queen of England. The planned visit unleashes scandal, romance and intrigue that leaves the future of Downton hanging in the balance. Written by series creator Julian Fellowes, “Downton Abbey,” the film, stars the original series cast.

Leslie Felperin, in the Hollywood Reporter, calls the film “satisfyingly sumptuous.” Richard Roeper, in the Chicago Sun Times, calls it “a lovely and welcome encore.” Kevin Maher, in the Times (UK), calls it “utterly, ineffably, and often fabulously, Downton.” Adam Graham, in the Detroit News, says “given the material, a rowdy cheer seems inappropriate, so a polite round of applause will do.” Rated PG for thematic elements, some suggestive material, and language, “Downton Abbey” runs two hours, two minutes.

The Opera House Cinema Series is sponsored by Lake Shore Savings Bank. Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. A book of 10 movie passes is available for $60 at the door or online at www.fredopera.org. For more information, call the Opera House Box Office at 679-1891.

The Opera House is equipped with individualized closed captioning headsets for the deaf as well as with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or Opera House staff member.

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House is a member-supported not-for-profit performing arts center located in Village Hall in downtown Fredonia. For a complete schedule of events, visit www.fredopera.org.
