Vermont voters call on democrats to find plan to work against Trump during Balint town hall
U.S. Representative Becca Balint (VT-AL) hosted a town hall in Windham County on Monday.
The Democratic congresswoman took questions from Vermonters at the Bellows Falls Opera House on Monday evening.
Many of the concerns shared with Balint related to the Trump administration. People asked questions related to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, federal research funding, and immigration.
In addition to these national topics, Lisa Mior from Westminster, asked Balint a question being echoed at town halls across the country:
"When is the democratic party going to gather together, unified with a message, with a unified goal, and be transparent and come out on the radio, on the television, in the newspaper, and give these people some leadership?" she said.
Mior's question prompted a standing ovation from some members of the crowd.
"I will tell you, I will continue to do what I'm doing on the inside, which is to push my leadership to take off the gloves, roll up their sleeves, go toe to toe and not blink," Balint responded.
After the town hall, Moir said it was not the answer she was looking for from democrats, but thought that it was the best the Balint could give.
"When and where will the democrats coalesce?" She asked after.
Balint emphasized that she is continuing to work for her constituents.
"I want you to know that I will show up every day in Congress to protect this democracy that I love so very much," she said.
Balint says Republicans need to do more to work with Democrats in the House to create more progress in Washington. However, some Vermonters think the opposite is true.
"As soon as they hear an idea, they're against it and railing, you know what the problem is without thinking about, 'Hey, is there a way that we can use this to help Vermonters'?" GOP Chair Paul Dame said.
Balint said she did not know when her next town hall would be.
