
Portland police are investigating an attempted carjacking at the rear of a local supermarket mid this week.

Portland police crime investigation unit detectives are looking into the incident and trying to identify the offender after the terrifying attack on Wednesday, May 7.
A spokesperson said it's believed the offender attended the rear carpark about 1pm Wednesday and tried to steal a car.
"This incident occurred near the can recycling machine, close to Henty Street," they said.
"The victim received facial injuries and was required to attend Portland hospital for treatment.
"The male offender is described as Caucasian, mid 20s, 180cm, of slight build wearing a brown or beige hoodie, black tracksuit pants and black runners."
The spokesperson said Victoria Police had released a composite image of the man to assist with their inquiries.
"If anyone has CCTV or dash cam footage from the district, was in the area at this time or has any other information about the identity of this offender, please contact Portland police station on 5522 1500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000," they said.
