A new crisis intervention initiative is underway in Pennsylvania.

It's a statewide effort through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

That commission joined local leaders, law enforcement, and behavioral health professionals today in Reading to announce the Crisis Intervention Team Technical Assistance Center.

Local leaders say it highlights the work to enhance responses for individuals in crisis and community safety.

John Adams, Berks County District Attorney, said, "As chief law enforcement officer I am well aware of the mental health crisis we face in our community and our law enoforcement officer face every day."

The initiative is the first of its kind in the nation.
