Acclaimed French-Israeli opera singer to perform in Aspen

Set to euphonically complement four pieces from late 20th-century composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, acclaimed French-Israeli mezzo-soprano Naama Liany will be offering a free performance at the Aspen Pitkin County Library on Saturday.

Slated for 5 p.m., Liany told The Aspen Times on Thursday that her homage to Castelnuovo-Tedesco is inspired by his days in Hollywood and becoming a film composer with Metro-Goldwyn Mayer.

“For him, when he immigrated to the U.S., he said his film music will become an art form,” she said. “He immigrated to LA, and he found it spectacular as a new artform.” 

Liany began her career in Luxembourg and toured all across Europe, singing with a glass-breaking but subtle din typically found on some of the finest globally-renowned opera stages. She will be singing on behalf of the Luxembourg Arts Council, otherwise known as Kultur | lx – Arts Council Luxembourg.

After the Aspen concert, she said she’s off to Spain for her next performance.

“I was here before,” she said of Aspen. “But this is my first time performing this program here, so I’m excited about it.”
