Beginning with the 2026 tax year, retired veterans in Georgia will receive expanded tax relief on their military retirement income.
On May 13, Governor Brian Kemp signed House Bill 266 into law, increasing the state’s income tax exemption for military retirement pay for veterans under the age of 65 to $65,000. Previously, veterans in this age group were only eligible for an exemption of up to $17,500, along with an additional $17,500 if they had at least $17,500 in earned income. The new law removes the earned income requirement and significantly raises the exemption amount.
