DAR ES SALAAM, June 12 (Xinhua) -- The government of Tanzania on Thursday announced a budget of 56.49 trillion Tanzanian shillings (about 21.7 billion U.S. dollars) for the 2025/26 financial year.

Presenting the budget in parliament in the capital, Dodoma, Finance Minister Mwigulu Nchemba said the budget has been prepared in alignment with the Tanzania Development Vision 2025 and the Third National Five-Year Development Plan (2021/22-2025/26), which aims to build a competitive and industrial economy that supports human development.

He said the 2025/26 budget also includes funding for the October general elections, during which Tanzanians will elect councillors, members of parliament, and the president.

In addition to supporting the electoral process, the budget prioritizes strategic infrastructure projects and the continued improvement of essential public services, including healthcare, education, and access to clean water, said the minister.
