The first week of the programme opens on Monday, July 14, at 8:30pm with Session Americana accompanied by Eleanor Buckland. With nine records and a residency in Cambridge, Massachusetts, their vibrant, rootsy sound brings together American country, jazz, and rock.
Tuesday, July 15 at 8pm, Skinny Living takes to the stage. Their long-awaited debut album Day By Day reached Number 1 on the British Independent Albums Chart, and their songs reflect stories of resilience and aspiration, with over sixty million global streams.
On Wednesday, July 16, at 8pm, English indie favourites The Magic Numbers will perform. Comprising two pairs of siblings: Romeo and Michele Stodart, and Sean and Angela Gannon, this chart-topping London-based four-piece was nominated for the Mercury Prize.
Enjoy lunchtime treats on Dominick Street, with Ireland’s finest traditional musicians as part of a special lunchtime series at Monroe’s Live for GIAF.
On Thursday, July 17, at 1pm, enjoy the stylings of Mary Staunton on accordion and vocals, and Holly Geraghty on harp and concertina.
Thursday evening sees BIIRD make its Galway debut in a sold-out performance. This new trad supergroup of eleven women, comprising instrumentalists, singers and lilters, brings a collective energy to Irish music after their landmark debut in London’s Trafalgar Square.
The traditional music showcase continues on Friday, July 18, at 1pm with Nuala Kennedy on flute and vocals, and Tara Breen on fiddle.
At 8pm join Biig Piig on the main stage. With a sound that merges hip-hop, R&B, and dance, she brings her acclaimed album 11:11 to life. Born in Ireland but spending her formative years in Spain and London, has inspired her music.
On Saturday, July 19, the traditional lunchtime concert series continues at 1pm with Ann Kirrane, Garry O’Briain and Ronan Greene.
Irish indie band, The Frank and Walters, perform a special acoustic set on Saturday, July 19 at 8pm, revisiting tracks like 'After All' and 'Fashion Crisis Hits New York' from a career that has spanned more than three decades.
On Sunday, July 20 at 8pm, NOTIFY, bring together trad with jazz, post-rock, and cinematic influences, featuring six Irish musicians; Pádraig Rynne on concertina, Tara Breen on fiddle, Davie Ryan on drums and percussion, Adam Taylor on bass, Rory McCarthy on piano and guitarists Fender Rhodes and Hugh Dillon.
They will be supported by indie folk artist How I Became A Wave, the solo project of Pat Carey.
