When Jenny's phone was stolen in Luxembourg City, she did not expect to track it down weeks later in a Romanian phone shop.
Jenny's phone was stolen in Luxembourg City, but two weeks later, she managed to locate it in Romania, inside an electronics shop that also sold phone accessories.
Using the 'Find My iPhone' app and contacting a nearby restaurant, Jenny was able to get in touch with someone who agreed to bring the phone back to Luxembourg.
Three weeks after, the phone was finally back home.
Police advise to file complaint immediately
The police emphasise the importance of filing a complaint immediately after a theft. Once a phone is geolocated – either through an app or by the authorities – an investigation can be launched.
If the phone is still in Luxembourg, recovery is often more straightforward. However, when the device is located abroad, things become more complicated.
The police in such cases rely on cooperation with foreign authorities and data from international providers. By the time all necessary procedures are completed, the phone may already have been moved to a different location, making recovery difficult.
In Jenny's case, luck was on her side. She actively searched for her phone and ultimately managed to retrieve it from abroad.
