Today (Tuesday, June 14) marks the five years since the Grenfell Tower fire.

One of the largest scale disasters in Britain in recent memory, 72 people were killed when a blaze broke out in Flat 16 of Grenfell Tower in Kensington, West London.

On June 14, 2017, a blaze quickly evolved from a small fire contained in a kitchen to a sprawling inferno covering most of the tower block.

To commemorate the victims, there will be a 72-second silence to commemorate the victims at 2pm today, as well as a memorial service in Westminster Abbey where their names will be read before an abbey bell rings 72 times

As the victims’ families, survivors and campaigners continue their fight for justice, Metro.co.uk remembers the people who lost their lives in Grenfell Tower.
