Mariinsky Orchestra Presents Concert in Bellas Artes Together With Esperanza Azteca, Conducted by Valery Gergiev

Grupo Salinas Chairman Ricardo Salinas announces that the Esperanza Azteca Youth Orchestra Program will increase in 300 programs according to an agreement with President-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador

MEXICO CITY, Oct. 30, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Grupo Salinas, a group of dynamic, fast-growing and technologically advanced companies, deeply committed to the modernization of the countries where they operate, announced that the Esperanza Azteca Youth Orchestra performed together with the Mariinsky Orchestra under the direction of the world-renowned artistic and general director of the Mariinsky Theater, Valery Gergiev at the Palacio de Bellas Artes on October 27.

Prior to the presentation, Grupo Salinas founder Ricardo B. Salinas, in company of the Russian Ambassador to Mexico Viktor Koronelli, National Institute of Fine Arts Director Lidia Camacho, and Fundación Azteca General Director Antonio Domínguez Sagols, gave the Maestro Valery Gergiev the Esperanza Azteca Medal of Musical Merit, which is given to outstanding musicians in Mexico who have promoted youths in music.

This collaboration between the Mariinsky Orchestra and the Esperanza Azteca Symphonic Orchestra is, "extraordinary and unique, and the cherry on the cake, of course, is the direction of Maestro Gergiev," commented Mr. Salinas to the audience gathered at the Bellas Artes auditorium.

Ricardo Salinas added, "We have around 80 orchestras and 16,000 children who are not on the street, who are forging a life and a career around music, but also, and very importantly, they are building much needed human character in our country and in the world, which promotes collaboration, teamwork, respect and excellence. That is why I am pleased to announce that we have agreed with the President-elect Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador that we are going to grow the project to include 300 additional orchestras.”

Director Valery Gergiev recognized the great honor it represents for him to be for the third time directing youth in Mexico, because he believes that music unites countries in these complex and globalized times.

The concert included works by: Shostakovich, Wagner, Mascagni, Berlioz, Massenet, Verdi, Puccini, von Weber, Strauss, Bizet and di Capua; as well as "Pictures of an Exhibition" by Mussorgsky; and an encore presentation of "Danzón No. 2" by Mexican composer Arturo Marquez.

The sopranos, Angelina Akhmedova and Anastasia Schegoleva, and the tenor, Alexander Mihailov, were also included in the program; exceptional opera singers of the Atkins Foundation interested in collaborating with musical programs dedicated to promoting youth throughout the world. In addition to the participation of 60 Esperanza Azteca members, the program also featured guest conductor Lorenz Nasturica-Herschcowici, Concertmaster of the Munich Philharmonic.

Since 2009, the Esperanza Azteca Youth Orchestras and Choirs program operates throughout the country thanks to alliances between the Mexican Congress, the Federal Government, state and municipal governments, the Ministry of Culture, Fundación Azteca, and local civil society, which convey their work, heart and confidence in the project.
